Hi all, Does anyone know if there's a pattern to when SDNY (or EDNY -- or really any other District) judges read grad applications? I know a few hire very early. Do a significant number look at graduate applications during July-August? Or do they just sit on the applications until the 3L applications come in September?

Most judges on SDNY hire way in advance, for instance several judges essentially hire 2 years in advance now (go look at all the 2011-12 postings for SDNY on OSCAR). Even those who hire more traditionally tend to be filled with alumni hires before 3Ls can even apply. To summarize, not many 3Ls get SDNY offers, even in more favorable economies.

My CS office suggests sending out applications (as a grad) now and re-sending in September to chambers that didn't call or send a no-thanks. A point to this?

Actually looked like a common misuse of the passage, as Juliet's speech meant "Where are you, Romeo?" Note the comma placement in "Wherefore art thou, Preska?" (cf "Wherefore art thou Romeo" -- "Why are you Romeo?"). Or is there something wrong with Preska's name? Is Preska in a blood feud with T14 schools?

If there isn't, that may have tipped you off that the phrase wasn't being used to ascertain her actual whereabouts so much as to indicate by a close association between the famous phrase and the famous play love and passion. @89 I know a foreign student who managed to land a clerkship in a fairly competitive east coast district (think EDPA, EDNY, D.Mass, etc.). She did have a fairly prominent prof go to bat for her though. So I think the short answer to your question is that it's harder, but that it happens more often than many might think. HTH.
