Professional Career History:

Judge Nuechterlein previously served as an Assistant Commissioner and Chief Counsel of the California Department of Corporations from 1998-2000. From 1989 to 1998 he was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of California where he served in several supervisory positions including Executive Assistant United States Attorney, Chief of the Criminal Division, Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division and Chief of the Special Prosecutions Unit. He also served as a Trial Attorney for the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. from 1983-1989 in both the Criminal and Environment and Natural Resources Divisions. As a federal prosecutor, Nuechterlein prosecuted cases throughout the United States involving fraud, public corruption, tax, major drug offenses and wildlife cases. While with the Department of Justice, Judge Nuechterlein was the Assistant Director, Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute from 1987-1988. From 1978-1981, he was in private practice with Yoder, Ainlay, Ulmer and Buckingham in Goshen, Indiana. He also was a Law Clerk to U.S. District Judge Allen Sharp, United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana from 1976-1978.
