Response to the question about the GSU clerk, Johnson is a Magistrate judge, so not sure if that helped. The clerk was law review (note published), cum laude, several years of (unrelated) work experience. GSU also recently placed a clerk in Southern District (see my comment there), who was also law review. Improving reputation of the school is helping, but still an uphill climb...
