Judge Niedermeier was a Trial Attorney with the Civil Rights Division, Criminal Section, of the United States Department of Justice from 1973 to 1976. He was an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Vermont from 1976 to 1982, serving as First Assistant from 1980 to 1982. In 1979 he was the recipient of a Special Commendation Award from the Attorney General.
