 On Plan?

Aug 6, 2009, 3:30 PM

#11

Are the D. Md. judges typically on plan for rising 3Ls or is this just the calm before the storm (of mid0late August hires)?

 – Anonymous (Unregistered)

 On Plan

Aug 20, 2009, 4:08 PM

#12

A significant percentage of the D.Md. judges seem to be hiring alums this year -- Messitte, Titus, Chasanow, to name a few. There are certainly judges that hire 3Ls based on the Plan, but I think the trend is more toward alums at this point. With that said, if you're a 3L, don't lose hope and definitely still apply.

 Unqualified

Nov 22, 2009, 5:05 PM

 Re: Gesner, Beth P.

#47

Magistrate Beth Gesner lacks the basic qualifcations to serve as federal magistrate, and clearly did not earn her position based on merit. This incompetent jurist remarkably insisted that she knew better than five licensed medical professional as to whether a person had a disability, she insisted that an officer documented to have fabricated incident reports could still be credible on related testimony, and she repeatedly failed to keep track of the most basic facts and issues in the case. She arrogantly refuses to acknowledge her mistakes when pointed out, and tries to ignore or conceal them. Most apalling how her decisions are based on the prevailing political winds, in particular her insistence that our laws and court rules should be relaxed in light of 9-11, and that minimum wage security contractors should be given more discretion to violate individual civil liberties in light of 9-11.

 Lack of integrity

Nov 22, 2009, 5:20 PM

 Re: Legg, Benson Everett

#48

Judge Legg consistently puts his Republican political agenda before the prevailing facts and law. A contributor to the first President Bush, Legg has almost always ruled against civil rights litigants, sought to gut the Americans with Disabilitys Act, and insisted that police officers shouldn't be burdened with the requirment to allow arrested parties to arrange for the safe transportation of their vehicles, contrary to well-established case law. He simply ignores fundamental due process rights, like the right of aggrieved parties to a hearing when the government deprives thems of rights. He either doesn't bother to read briefs or willfully defames parties by misstating their causes of actions, case disposition, or other key elements of the case. And he degrades the integrity of his profession by refusing to correct any of his mistakes, no matter how publicly obvious they are. Right-wing bigots like Judge Legg do a great disservice to our system of justice.
