Immediately prior to his appointment to the Court, Judge Stanceu was in private practice for thirteen years in Washington, D.C. with the law firm Hogan & Hartson, L.L.P. He represented clients in a variety of matters involving customs and international trade law. During the fifteen years prior to his law practice, Judge Stanceu's career in the federal government included a term as Deputy Director of the Office of Trade and Tariff Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where his responsibilities involved the regulatory and enforcement matters of the U.S. Customs Service and other agencies. Prior to that position, he served as Special Assistant to the Treasury Department's Assistant Secretary for Enforcement and in several positions at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. There he concentrated on the development and review of regulations on various environmental topics.
