All 3 of his 2010 clerks are Alumni and all 3 are clerking on district courts in 2009-10. The UVa grad, at least, is a 2009 J.D.

Does anyone know anything about Judge Sloviter's hiring practices? Is it easier to get a clerkship with her b/c of all the rumors about her being a very tough boss?

 Sloviter

Jun 12, 2009, 10:33 AM

 Re: Sloviter, Dolores Korman

#11

Have heard from multiple sources that she is absolutely terrible to work for. I would imagine it would be easier to get a clerkship with her given the smaller pool of applicants, but that's a guess. Not worth it in my opinion.

#15

Judge Jordan changed his OSCAR profile today to eliminate the two August positions and one October position, and changed the description on the remaining open position from interest in intellectual property law preferred to interest in intellectual property law required.

 Roth

Jul 9, 2009, 4:02 PM

 Re: Roth, Jane Richards

#22

Judge Roth has posted on Oscar that she has 3 positions open for 2011-2012. Does anyone know if this means she is full for 2010 or were those positions supposed to refer to this year?

 Question

Jul 10, 2009, 12:53 AM

#24

who is the most "prestigious" 3d circuit judge to clerk for at the moment?

 – Anonymous (Unregistered)

 Most prestigious

Jul 10, 2009, 1:49 AM

#25

It's pretty undisputed that Scirica is the most prestigious of all the active judges. Beyond that it's a lot less clear, but I'd put Rendell and Jordan in that next tier.

 – Anonymous (Unregistered)

 Prestige

Judge Sloviter is actually quite prestigious. Despite her terrible reputation as an employer, she has a great reputation as a judge.

 McKee

Jul 10, 2009, 8:34 AM

#31

Barry is something of a darkhorse when it comes to prestige. She's had two recent clerks go on to clerk for SCOTUS, which puts her in a tie for 22nd on the list of feeder judges (http://www.lawclerkaddict.com/data/feeders).

 – Anonymous (Unregistered)

 Prestige

Jul 10, 2009, 12:32 PM

#32

Beyond Scirica it's very tough to rank based on prestige and you can make very strong arguments for Sloviter (great judge but reputedly horrible to work for), Barry (minor feeder), Rendell (reasons should be obvious), McKee (will be chief judge but not really remarkable beyond that) and Jordan (new but strong potential to feed in the future). If you don't get Scirica I'd feel about equally comfortable with any of the above.

Jul 10, 2009, 5:20 PM

Given that some top firms are deferring current summer associates until 2012, you'd be a fool not to apply for a 2011 clerkship if you're a 3L.
