#1

Can anyone let me know if Judge Pooler has a grade cutoff, and if so, what that is for a top 10 (non HYS) school? I'm a 3L putting together an app. Any additional info about this judge would be greatly appreciated.

 Wesley Penn clerk

Jun 3, 2009, 8:19 PM

 Re: Wesley, Richard C.

#9

Our source for the 2009-10 UPenn clerk is Penn's clerkship handbook, which idenifies a 2005 graduate (initials TK) as clerking for Wesley for that term. Unless Penn got the year wrong (or TK quit / had his offer rescinded after the handbook came out), that placement is correct.

Does anyone know the third Kearse clerk for 2010-11?

This is wrong. There is no Columbia '09 clerking in '10 -- that spot is Yale '09.

Even if it was only sent to specific applicants, a lot of people must have gotten it relative to the number of positions (1) available.

#103

I hope I'm wrong, but my educated guess is that chambers used OSCAR to screen apps for minimum criteria, are using the responses to screen out the stars who accepted offers elsewhere but were too lazy to withdraw, and will then do an indepth review of who's left (which honestly will probably be several dozen people, if not more). So, I probably wouldn't that much into it... after all, if it was really selective, six people on this site wouldn't have claimed to have gotten it.

To be fair, it makes sense at this late stage to ensure that candidates are available before scrutinizing them. Particularly since a 2nd Circuit judge can usually hire "stars." If there is any consolation, many of the people contacted will have already accepted elsewhere and won't be interviewing (like me). For the record, I'm still laughing at #10's disingenuous "Anything new" post.

No call yet, but if #103 is right then chambers might not have even started to screen apps yet, so calls might not happen immediately.

I'm not sure if this counts as 2009-10 or 2010-11 (probably the former), but Judge Hall hired a Cardozo alumnus to clerk from Jan '09 through Jan '10.

Both currently listed were hired as alums and are class of 2009. The third is Yale class of 2010, hired as a student (obv). There are only 3 each year for 2010 and after.
