 Re: Wilkins, William Walter

#1

Wilkins resigned his commission several months ago to return to private practice. He should be listed as a former judge, not a senior judge.

It's tough to keep up with the almost 2000 judges in our database, and we haven't even entered the bankruptcy or state supreme court judges yet! Wilkins has been changed from senior to former.

For those who don't know, Judge Williams doesn't use OSCAR, even though it says she does. Unless she changed her practices recently, to apply you have to send your materials to kjw.clerk.apps@gmail.com

Wilkinson only hires for June. That's why he has the blurb about how you can't take a bar examination during the clerkship.

Unless Andre Davis is confirmed very soon and hasn't already hired his extra clerk or two for 2009-10, it's hard to see how these people are going to just "slip in" with another judge a month before their clerkships were set to begin.

Do 4th circuit watchers have any idea who's being considered for the SC seat that was vacated by Karen Williams? Is the White House relying on Clyburn to make a recommendation?

It's going to take a little while for me to fully update the entire site - I've only been at this for a day, and I am doing this as a volunteer (in addition to a demanding full-time job). So please, be patient, but I am trying to update the pages as soon as possible. That said, who is the fourth Motz Clerk for 2010-11? I see Columbia, Harvard, and Yale.

 4th Circuit

Jun 22, 2010, 1:00 PM

#114

NYU's clerkship manual shows the past clerks for the 4th circuit as having the second highest GPA range and average (after the D.C. circuit). it is significantly higher than the 9th and 2nd circuits (by significant, i mean like .05-.1, which is a lot). why is it so hard to get a 4th circuit clerkship? it can't be wilkinson, b/c he's rarely taken from nyu (if at all).

Depending on how far the data goes back, it might also be due to Luttig, who was a significant feeder. Niemeyer also is a semi-feeder.

Motz is pretty selective too. But the theory that Wilkinson + Luttig & Niemeyer driving those numbers makes a lot of sense on its own.
