i heard through the grapevine that southwick has lower clerk hiring standards re: law school grades, academic credentials. confirmation?

I would say that you have a better chance only if you're a Texas or Mississippi law grad.
Look at her hires and compare them to where her chambers are and where she went to school:
She's currently a professor at Mississippi College School of Law AND she went to school at UT. So, in essence, it seems as though she has a preference for students in these areas / schools.

Can confirm Leslie Southwick is a man. In case you were wondering, Rhesa Barksdale is also a man.
I don't think Southwick is any less competitive then other 5th Circuit judges. I know his Texas clerks both had multiple COA interview offers.
