DDC and SDNY are much more prestigious than the 8th Circuit; that's not a knock on the 8th Circuit, which is great, but those two district courts are better than most flyover circuits.

As an F.Y.I., J. Smith's other 2009-10 term clerk was a Univ. of Ark. Little Rock Alum. His third clerk is a career clerk, also a Univ. of Ark. Little Rock Alum. (J. Smith only employs three clerks rather than the typical four.) His 2010 to 2011 term clerks were an alum from the University of Texas School of Law and a student from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. His 2011 to 2012 term clerks are a Vanderbilt Law Alum and a Michigan Law Alum.
Judge Smith is still interviewing for his 2012-2013 slots, but he has already extended one offer to a Harvard 3L.
